When parents say that it is time for bed, the little gnome, elf, prince, knight, bear and robot in this book respond in a similar manner. Each one shouts "Go away!" then begins making some major noise with a big drum, a gong, a bassoon or a horn. Eventually the cacophony of sound diminishes as all the little would-be musicians fall asleep.
Frankly, as a parent, I'm not sure I want to read my child a book where the adults in the story are told, in no uncertain terms, to "Go away!" Although this is meant to be a harmless story that features various types of sounds and cute, fanciful characters, I don't care for the repetition of the same line throughout the book.
If, when I suggest it is bedtime to my child, and he replies, "Go away!" am I supposed to laugh off his cute response? What is funny within the context of this book may not be after story time is over. I, for one, will pass on Boom Boom Go Away!
