If You Give a Cat a Cupcake...
by Laura Numeroff, illustrated by Felicia Bond
Ages 4-8 32 pages HarperCollins September 2008 Hardcover

If you give a cat a cupcake, doing so will initiate a string of events that will fill up the entire day, Well, at least this is what will transpire according to author Laura Numeroff, who uses this innovative premise as the basis for her new book.

A cat’s simple request for sprinkles to go with dessert (a seemingly appropriate request) leads to a mess, which leads to cleaning up, which leads to the need to cool off at the beach. This is just the beginning of a fun day filled with exercising, playing outdoors, and other activities that lead right back to the enticing dessert.

If You Give a Cat a Cupcake... is a sweet story (pun intended) with beautiful illustrations that enhance its appeal. Okay, so perhaps your child won’t like this book more than a sugar-filled dessert, but it is absolutely a treat just the same.
