Cowboy Boyd and his unique ‘horse,’ Calliope, ride into town looking for work at the local dude ranch. Boyd and Calliope are not traditional dude ranchers, but they work hard to prove themselves useful.
Calliope—resembling more of a rhinoceros than a traditional horse—rambles through his work with a steady KER-THUD as Sebastiaan Van Doninck’s illustrations pop with humor and Old West adventure.
Boyd and Calliope cause enough trouble to tear down most of the ranch, but they prove their worth when the cows bust loose. It’s proof that even the most unlikely cowboy can be a hero.
Neither Lisa Moser nor Van Doninck has ever been on a dude ranch, but they jump in boots-first with Cowboy Boyd and Mighty Calliope .
