Have you ever found a Thunder Egg? It looks like an ordinary rock to most people, but there’s something very special about the Thunder Egg that Jesse finds on a hike with his cousin Daisy - it talks! Or rather, the dragon inside it talks, and pretty soon the little dragon, named Emmy, hatches.
Jesse and Daisy understand that having a pet is a big responsibility, but a pet dragon is a lot harder to take care of than a puppy or a cat. For one thing, dragons grow up fast. For another, stores don’t sell dragon food. While the cousins are busy just trying to figure out the basics of caring for their new friend, they discover that Emmy is not even the biggest challenge in their lives.
A man known as The Dragonslayer is also aware that Emmy has hatched, and he wants her for his own. The Dragonslayer isn’t interested in a pet, though: he wants to kill the cuddly little dragon.
Jesse and Daisy will do their best to protect their precious Emmy, but the Dragonslayer is older, stronger and sneakier than they are, and he will do anything to get his hands on Emmy – no matter who he has to hurt.
The Dragon in the Sock Drawer is recommended for readers aged 8 to 12 years, but this exciting adventure will enchant readers of any age. Jesse and Daisy prove that heroes come in all sizes, and that grown-ups aren’t always the smartest people in the room. This magical tale begins with a message: “The world is talking to us. Everything in it has a story to tell. All we have to do is sit quietly and listen.” What a wonderful way to introduce young people to the stories all around us, in books and even in rocks.
