Feelings (A Chock-a-Block Book)
by Kristen Balouch
Ages 1-4 14 pages Little Simon April 2011 Board book

Showcasing a humorous cast of animals, author Kristen Balouch demonstrates some basic feelings any child can relate to. Open the book and you’ll find a lion who can’t find his friends, and there are a few tears running down his face. Obviously the lion feels sad.

On the pages that follow, you’ll discover a sneaky crocodile, a silly monkey, a shy giraffe and a happy elephant. On the final page, all the animals gather together, excited because it is party time!

With its chunky, lightweight pages - easy for little fingers to turn - and the use of bright colors, Feelings is one book your toddler will be excited about. As a concept book, it works on a number of levels, from basic feelings and animal images to basic colors and simple words.

Make a game of reading this book and ask questions like, “Where’s the monkey?” or “Do you see something orange?” For older children you might ask “How does the lion feel?” or “Can you point to the word ‘silly’?”
