Faithgirlz! Best Friends Bible (Today's New International Version)
features by Nancy N. Rue
Ages 9-12 1632 pages Zonderkidz August 2006 Hardcover

Zonderkidz, an imprint of Zondervan, has launched a new series of books, Bibles and other materials that target 8-12 year old girls: faithGirlz! These materials help girls grow in their faith and apply it to the real-life situations they face very day.

The faithgirlz! Bible does not look like a Bible. It’s bright, attractive and easy to use. Written in Today’s New International Version, it’s easy for even young readers to comprehend.

The faithgirlz! Bible has features that help girls apply what they read to their lives. Each book of the Bible has a brief introduction that explains how that book applies to life today. Another feature is “Dream Girl,” which encourages girls to imagine what it would be like to be in the story they are reading. “Oh, I Get It” segments provide additional information to help them understand the text and “Bring It On” segments are little quizzes that encourage girls to think and to develop their own Bible applications.

There are also “Between God and Me” sections for the girls to journal prayers in. “Between You and Me” sections give a girl and a friend a place to journal about problems and questions—at the same time.

The faithgirlz! Bible meets girls where they are. It looks cool and jazzy. It’s made for sharing, which capitalizes on girls’ penchant for friendship and gives them early practice in sharing about faith issues. Each of the segments encourages good bible study practices that they will use for a lifetime. Most importantly, this Bible teaches girls to read Scripture themselves, think about it and apply it to their lives.
