Baby-PreK 6 pages Abbeville Kids October 2009 Board book

Little Discoveries’ Wild Animals is great introduction to the world of animals, and it will continue to provide enjoyment to the youngest readers as they grow.

First, the book has charming and vibrant illustrations on thick pages that can be turned with ease. As children develop their motors skills, they will learn to lift the many flaps to reveal hidden illustrations and to pull certain tabs to reveal more detailed facts about some of the animals featured.

The coverage of the book is diverse, covering common animals such as rabbits, lions and frogs, as well as some unique, lesser-known creatures such as a lemming, an alpine grouse, and a hyacinth macaw.

The text of the book also tracks this expansive coverage. Some of the information is fairly well-known, such as the fact that some animals sleep at night, and others sleep during the day. More advanced information (such as the fact that whales feed their babies with 130 gallons of milk each day, and when ostriches eat as least one remains alert to watch the surrounding area) can be found underneath the flaps.

Wild Animals is an interactive book that has a lot to offer and will make a valuable contribution to any child’s book collection.
