Mo and Jo: Fighting Together Forever
by Dean Haspiel and Jay Lynch
Grades 2-4 40 pages Raw Junior, LLC September 2008 Hardcover

Mona and Joey are twins who are always fighting; the only thing they have in common is their admiration for the superhero Mighty Mojo. They learn to their surprise that Mighty Mojo is none other than their mailman, Mr. Mojoski, who is retiring from the superhero business. Mr. Mojoski decides to give his bright red-and-yellow superhero suit (with all its powers) to Mo and Jo.

As the brother and sister fight over the suit, it tears in half. Their mother decides to turn the ripped suit into two separate suits for the kids, inadvertently splitting the suit’s powers between the siblings - Mona now has Mojo’s stretchy arms, while Joey has Mojo’s magnetic boots. When evil Saw-Jaw threatens the town parade, Mo and Jo each try separately to save the day but learn that they can only be successful by working together.

This graphic novel by Dean Haspiel and Jay Lynch is amusing, with colorful and attractive illustrations. The simple writing and brisk pace will engage beginning readers. Mo and Jo: Fighting Together Forever manages to send a positive message to bickering siblings without being preachy.
