A Rainbow Zoo
by Annette Payne, illustrated by Megan Payne
Ages 3-6 16 pages Me+Math=Magic October 2009 Paperback

The A Rainbow Zoo: A Book of Colors, Shapes and Numbers is a cheerfully illustrated little book designed to introduce toddlers to basic concepts.

Readers walk through a colorful zoo and identify shapes, colors and numbers hidden in the collage animal figures. Kids will have a blast picking out details such as the two large yellow circles that make up a swinging monkey’s googly eyes, and finding mama kangaroo’s brown, square-shaped pouch with a joey peeking out of it.

The appeal of this book lies in the adorable animals that populate each page. The last page of the book lists additional activities for caregivers to pursue with young children to further reinforce the concepts in the book. This book was a hit at our house!
