The reader once again joins Traveling Bear for an adventure, this time with Traveling Bear’s friend Emma. The two are on a yellow bus that will take them through a safari area where they will encounter many different kinds of wild animals. Their tour guy, Big Sheldon, is here to help them understand what they are seeing and also tells them to write down any questions they have about the animals. Questions will be answered after the tour.

When the bus finally comes to a stop, Traveling Bear is filled with questions about the monkeys, the kangaroo and the elephant that they saw on the tour. But before Big Sheldon can address the group, Traveling Bear meets and talks with Trainer Ray. This helpful park employee directs Traveling Bear to a book all about the zoo and the animals that live there. Traveling Bear is able to find the answers to his questions in the book and has learned that there are many other books at the library about animals.

There is a song included at the end of the text. Parental guidance as to how to use the story to teach young readers is also included. An accompanying CD provides read-along capability as well as the music and lyrics for the song.

The “Winning Kids” series of 14 books is sure to be a favorite among the youngest readers. The pages are bright with color, and the characters are presented in a cartoon format sure to delight. If you have children from preschool through second grade, you will want to collect all 14 titles that teach valuable lessons while having fun. The series has two titles for each day of the week, so that teaching can continue through a 14-day cycle, with each day’s lesson building on the last.
