Ages 4-8 144 pages HarperCollins June 2014 Paperback

Continue to Learn to Read with Tug the Pup and Friends with Box Set 3. The eleven books inside are twelves pages in length. They star the same animal friends (a cat, a dog, a hen and a pig), but in these books, their adventures are told with two to three sentences per page, lines of dialogue, longer sentences, and more complex stories.

Problems need to be solved (Flat Tire), situations need to be worked out (The Singing Contest), and the friends learn new activities (Duck, Duck, Goose). Although the stories are not always filled with happy occurrences (Achoo!), they all have happy endings.

Braun’s color scheme for this set is green. The title, cover decorations, and select objects from the illustrations are meant to match. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend these book to parents who are teaching their children how to read. Wood’s box sets include everything children and parents will need for a fun reading experience.
