¡Fiesta! [bilingual book]
by Ginger Foglesong Guy, illustrated by Rene King Moreno
Ages Baby-preschool 34 pages Rayo March 2003 Board book

Engaging the imagination, the brightly illustrated ¡Fiesta! combines math basics with adventure and a healthy dose of curiosity, as young readers learn the plans of three enterprising youngsters.

A bilingual counting primer, this colorful and energetic book follows the three children to market one sunny day, where they fill one (uno) basket with precisely what is necessary for a special surprise: two (dos) horns, three (tres) little animals, four (cuatro) airplanes, five (cinco) tops, until the final purchase of ten (diez) streamers.

Calling the neighborhood niños to a backyard party (fiesta), the three companions have fashioned a beautiful piñata from the all the items purchased at the market that morning. As the children enthusiastically swing at the piñata, it is soon broken open; candy and toys scatter everywhere as the children enjoy an impromptu afternoon fiesta.

As the three friends explore the market stalls, choosing exactly what they need, each new item in the basket is an exercise in elementary addition. Bright and attractive, the vivid illustrations emphasize the happy faces of the children as they prepare their surprise in a bilingual counting primer to share with young readers in both English and Spanish, a fiesta of language and numbers.
