Have You Seen My Cat? (Ready to Read)
by Eric Carle
Ages 3-4 24 pages Simon Spotlight May 2012 Hardcover

Part of the Ready-to-Read series, this pre-level one story uses repetition and some familiar animals to get a youngster started on learning to read for himself.

The little boy in this book is looking for his cat. He embarks on a journey around the world asking the same question: “Have you seen my cat?”

When the people he meets hear the question, they always point to a member of the cat family (lion, tiger, puma, bobcat, etc.), but the child’s response is always the same: “That is not my cat!” Naturally, by the end of the tale the boy and his pet are reunited.

Although quite simple, this little volume is a good way of starting a child off on reading. It should build confidence and also allow the child to identify some animals found at most city zoos.
