Pantaloon (A Golden Classic)
by Kathryn Jackson, illustrated by Steven Salerno
Grades PreK-2 40 pages Golden Books March 2010 Hardcover

Pantaloon, a poodle with a penchant for pastries, is excited when he spies a “help wanted” sign in the window of his favorite bakery. Unfortunately, the baker doesn’t trust the hungry canine and shoos him out of the store. Then a strange turn of events lands the baker in bed, and it’s Pantaloon to the rescue!

This edition of Pantaloon is a modernized version of a Little Golden Books classic written by Kathryn Jackson in the 1950s. The delectable illustrations of Steven Salerno breathe new life into a story that still plays well in the new millenium. Children will delight at the sight of perky Pantaloon riding his bike in a pair of striped britches - and the bakery items look luscious enough to make your mouth water.

Classics are often hard to remake, but this one is a colorful tale of camaraderie that shouldn’t be missed. Those with a sweet tooth may find it especially delicious. Sometimes you really can have your cake and eat it too.
