It's Winter
by Jimmy Pickering
ages 4-8 32 pages Tallfellow Press September 2002 Hardcover

Sally and her faithful dog, Sam, awaken to find the ground covered in gorgeous white snow. Together they bundle up and discover how much fun can be had on a crisp winter day. The attention to detail is not lost in It's Winter as Jimmy Pickering illustrates the fascination of seeing your breath coming forth in a curly white wisp. Sally and Sam make snow angels and defy convention by shirking the traditional snowman for a snow dinosaur (and later dress it up lest it grow chilly).

The illustrations and clever rhymes distil the finest elements of winter for the reader to enjoy. Sally and Sam’s only responsibility is to squeeze every wonder out of the season and to go back for more the next day. The hot cocoa is welcoming and the crackling fire is an excellent way to end the day. I can almost feel the bottoms of my pantlegs wet from snow.
