by Jim Jinkins
ages 4-8 48 pages Random House January 2006 Paperback

Pinky's little brother, Tyler, has worn his lucky socks three days in a row, and do they stink! Pinky helps Tyler wash them in the sink, and while the socks dry she keeps him entertained with one of her trademark outlandish stories - about something super-smelly.

Daddy Doo whips up a special breakfast of Veggie Wedgie Beanie Weenie Neato Breakfast Burritos, and the whole family digs in. Pinky's lunchtime rumbly tummy erupts during an uproarious lunch-table joke telling spree with the tiniest little "toot". She hopes no one notices, but fresh waves of laughter overtake the other children as Daffinee chants "Stinky Pinky! Stinky Pinky!"

Dadddy Doo reminds an embarrassed and upset Pinky that evening about the Golden Rule - to treat others the way you want to be treated. Pinky calms down a bit and hopes that everyone will have forgotten her gastric indiscretion the next day in school. No such luck. Then the opportunity for Pinky's revenge arises in gym class when Daffinee's dress rips, exposing her underpants.

But rather than teasing Daffinee, Pinky lends her a sweater to tie around her waist to disguise the rip. From that moment on, Daffinee thinks Pinky is her best friend ever.

Pinky Stinky Doo is another serious lesson wrapped up in a silly story in Jim Jinkins' growing "Pinky Dinky Doo" books, and it follows the same story-within-a-story format as its predecessors. The cartoonish illustrations superimposed over photographs complement the wacky tone of the story and pull beginning readers into the tale, making this another winning Step Into Reading Step 3 book from the Random House children's division.
