In this sturdy board book, the PBS Kids characters are stuck indoors on a rainy day and decide to a take an imagination vacation instead. Each character describes where they are on their imagined vacation: Hideki the frog imagines that he is at the beach, Shu-Shu the panda bear has gone camping, Bonaparte is at the fairgrounds riding roller coasters, and the robots Nut and Bolt are in outer space, of course.
Each page features many different shapes and colors for young children to identify, with enough repetition of concepts to help kids achieve mastery. The colorful and shiny foil-stamped images on each page are a nice touch. There is a one-page guide for parents and caregivers at the end of the book, with ideas on how to use the book to teach shapes and colors to children.
This series of books featuring the PBS Kids is the result of a collaborative effort between the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and award-winning academic publisher Brighter Minds Children’s Publishing. Other books in the series include Hide and Peek and Fruit Salad. The series was nominated for the Mom’s Choice award.
