This is a board book about moving your body.
The girls and boys featured in the book are dancers. The ballerina is on the stage in her pink tutu. The blonde boy dancing under the disco ball is dressed like John Travolta.
Outside, a boy is break-dancing to the music coming from his ghetto blaster. In the indoor pool, two friends are synchronized swimming to music, and in the gymnasium, a girl is performing her balance beam routine to a song.
There is one flap to lift at the end of the book. When it extends outward, the five children from the book join the tapdancing boy on the stage for a final performance. I can tap my first solo. I can bow when it ends. I can dance in an encore with all my friends.
Each page in this board book has two die-cut holes. This allows children (or the reader) to be the characters’ legs or arms. I like the variety of activity in the story because it makes the book appealing to a wider audience. The children are all from different cultures, and they look happy to be moving their bodies to the music.
Pair this book with Snyder’s I Can Play for another book that showcases active children.
