Peek-a Boo!
by Nina Laden
Ages 1-3 22 pages Chronicle August 2015 Board book

Laden’s (Peek-a-Who? and Peek-a-Zoo!) latest board book will have children guessing Halloween-ish words that rhyme with boo.

They are given a colorful hint. When they look through the pear-shaped die-cut holes on every second page, they will see an illustration that depicts the next rhyming word. Appearing beside the die-cut page will be the words “Peek a”.

The clue for the word brew is the top of a bubbling cauldron. Triangular jack o’lantern eyes are the clue for goo (pumpkin seed goo). The other words, flew and crew, are associated with illustrations of trick-or-treaters and bats.

The book ends with a mirror. This allows children to answer Peek a …who are you? The book is a quick read, but it introduces children to rhyming in a fun way by incorporating Halloween and a guessing game into the story.
